Maybelline Baby Lips have been one of the most hyped-up products in the bloggersphere in the past couple of months, so after many weeks of longing, when I finally found them hidden away in Boots today - I couldn't resist! A little late maybe, but I have finally jumped aboard the bandwagon and purchased two of these bloggers-cult-products.
The two balms I chose were 'Pink Punch' and 'Hydrate'. I chose pink punch because if I'm just nipping to the library or shops a lipstick is a bit OTT, so I thought a tinted lipbalm is ideal for these kind of situations. On the other hand, I chose the 'Hydrate' balm because I thought this was absolutely perfect for keeping in my school blazer, because as one of the (many *sigh*) rules is no makeup, I think this will be great for those bitter winter days when your lips become all chapped and need a little TLC!
But lets get to what this post is all about: addressing the hype. As I mentioned already, these have been one of the most hyped up products in recent weeks, and the anticipation of all Beauty bloggers in the UK for these to arrive in Britain was crazy. Now, I know these have already been reviewed countless times, but you guessed it, I'm just going to add to the countless of others and share my opinion. (I do apologise for you having to listen to me babble on in every single blog post, but I'm working really hard to stop! *fingers crossed*)
Firstly, lets look at the main attraction of the Baby Lips. I think it goes without saying the packaging and design is absolutely adorable. It's fun, childish and quirky. Plus the name. Maybelline chose a real winner here in my opinion. Don't babies just have the freshest, softest and undeniably the most beautiful skin and lips in the world? It's something that we all list after, and Maybelline have tricked us into believing their product will give us just that. Hooray!
But if I'm totally and completely honest? As much as I hate being negative in reviews, I really don't see much different with this balm from your average Chapstick that you find in your Nan's handbag. Okay, so maybe the name is a little more original, and the packaging is a little more appealing to the younger generations, but at the end of the day, a lip balm will always be similar to the next product.
Aside with the negatives, there really are some great things about this product. Firstly, 'pink punch' smells absolutely divine, (its passionfruit-what's not to love!) and I keep find myself applying it because it smells so great. The other one, 'Hydrate' is a fresh smell, and it reminds me a little of fresh bedding (who doesn't love fresh bedding!) and this is also refreshing in your lips! (although the actual scent is supposedly lemon with a hint of basil). Another good thing about these products is that they last pretty well- after a few hours wearing the pink punch I still had a trace of colour on my lips, and my lips were also smooth-like baby's lips! (Excuse the very bad pun, but it was needed!). Maybelline claim the balms moisturise and hydrate your lips for up to 8 hours but I found it more to be 2-3 hours.
All in all, I neither love nor hate the Maybelline Baby Lips, but truth be told, I really don't think they are worth the hype, or should remain a cult-blogger product. They're great for chucking in your handbag for a quick on the go fix, but the good ol' Chapstick does the same job! To be summed up in a sentence, they're fun, cheap and smell great!
Much love, Lauryn x
