Getting home and seeing your forehead looks about as shiny as a piece of tinfoil is NEVER a good thing. Across the globe, the quest for matte skin by girls who are not blessed with ideal skin (aka me), is ever going, resulting in us girls spending way too much money on useless products. Despite being aware of this particular lack of self control, as soon as I step foot in Boots I am instantly drawn by some unknown force (aka lust for perfect skin) to the skincare aisle. Yes, it happens every single time. But why, you ask? As reluctant as I am to admit it, I am a skincare addict.
So now that that little confession is out of the way, on to today's post. Yep, you guessed it, its a skincare one. Again. I promise at some point in the future you will actually see some variation in beauty posts. Well, I hope.
Today I am going to be reviewing the Boots Botanics Mattifying 'Shine Away' Day Cream. I've seen a few reviews on blogs here and there, but its always nice to add to the existing opinions out there in the bloggosphere!
The cream itself is quite thick but it feels surprisingly lightweight once applied. It sinks into the skin within seconds and leaves it feeling oil-free yet hydrated. As a result, this moisturiser makes a brilliant base for foundation - there's nothing worse than your foundation sliding off your face by lunchtime. It smells citrus-y, although it's not too overpowering and the scent does not linger on the skin as expected.
One ingredient in particular that stood out to me was the Clarifying Willowbark, a natural source of Sacilyic acid - a spot fighting ingredient that many people, including myself, swear by. Furthermore, the cream also has an SPF of 15. I cannot stress how important it is to use a moisturiser with an SPF. Exposing your skin to the sun too often can result in the UV rays causing skin damage. In serious cases, a high exposure to lots of UV rays results in skin cancer. In less serious cases, exposure to UV rays often results in premature ageing, 'sun' spots, and dry, 'tight' skin. So to put it shortly, WEAR SPF!
I wore this moisturiser to school, minus any make up in order to really put it to the test. After applying, my skin looked fresh, felt soft, and more importantly? There was no trace of shine. Even after racing to the loo mirrors after a 40 minute bus journey to school, my skin still looked perfectly grease and shine free. However, after a rather tough P.E lesson (circuits if you're wondering - *shudder*) I looked in the mirror to see my forehead looked positively as greasy as a slice of bacon. Yuck. I put this down to the PE lesson and started the cycle again the next day with a fraction of hope. And guess what? When I got home 9 hours later, my skin did not look completely matte, but it was good enough for me. I've put this to the test for the past week, and apart from the dreaded PE days, my skin has been looking more grease free than it has in a long time.
Although I wouldn't consider this product a miracle worker, it has lived up to the majority of its claims and it does a good job of keeping extra oil at bay. I'm still undecided whether I shall re-purchase this or not, but so far its most likely going to be a yes!
Have you tried any of the Botanics skincare products? What did you think?
